In detail
Porto is a hilly city on the north bank of the Douro, where the river meets the Atlantic. The old town is the postcard; the reasons to stay a month are further west: the beaches at Foz (STCP bus 500 runs along the river to Foz and Matosinhos), the Parque da Cidade running to the sea, and quieter residential streets in Boavista, Ramalde and Matosinhos.
All of them compared, with lifeguard dates, sea temperature and Gaia’s beaches by train: Porto’s best beaches.
