Schedules and fare insights checked on 10 October 2026. Weekly counts are Google Flights’ number of non-stop flights shown for the coming months on 10 October 2026; frequencies vary by travel date, and summer schedules differ. Fare patterns are Google’s statistical summary of the past 12 months, not prices you can book. We list no current prices.

To fly to Madeira, fly to Madeira Airport (FNC) at Santa Cruz, about 19 km and 20 minutes by road from Funchal [1][14]. In autumn 2026 there were direct flights every day from London, Manchester, Frankfurt, Paris, Lisbon and Porto, several days a week from Amsterdam, Munich, Düsseldorf, Berlin, Dublin and Prague, and on one day a week from Copenhagen, Stockholm and Oslo [3–12][19]. Fares are typically lowest in December and January and highest in July and August [4–12]. One thing is specific to Madeira: wind. The airport has mandatory wind limits, and flights are sometimes delayed or diverted [1].

Who flies direct to Madeira

Snapshot as of 10 October 2026, with Porto–Funchal rechecked on 11 October. These route-page counts do not establish a timetable for a particular winter week. The frequency column is Google Flights’ count of weekly non-stop flights; the rest comes from Wikipedia’s airlines table, which also marks routes as seasonal [1]. Check the airline’s own schedule before you plan around a route.

From Direct airlines Frequency (Google Flights, snapshot 10 Oct 2026)

Ireland Ryanair (Dublin; also Shannon) [1] Dublin 3 days a week (Mon, Thu, Fri) [6]
Germany Discover, Condor, TUI fly (Frankfurt, Munich); Eurowings, Condor, TUI fly (Düsseldorf); easyJet (Berlin); Marabu (Hamburg) Frankfurt daily; Munich 6 days, Düsseldorf 5, Berlin 4, Hamburg 2 a week [7][8]
Czech Republic Smartwings (Prague), listed as seasonal [1]; Eurowings Prague also seasonal [1] Prague: 6 a week on 5 days (Mon, Tue, Thu, Fri, Sat); 4 h 45 [10]
Netherlands Transavia, easyJet (Amsterdam); TUI fly Netherlands seasonal [1] Amsterdam 6 days a week: Transavia 6, easyJet 3 [9]
France Transavia (Orly), Ryanair (Beauvais), easyJet (Charles de Gaulle); easyJet and Transavia also from Nantes [1] Paris daily: Transavia 7, Ryanair 4, easyJet 4 a week [11]
Scandinavia and Finland SAS (Copenhagen, Stockholm), Norwegian (Oslo), Finnair (Helsinki, seasonal) [1] One day a week: Copenhagen and Stockholm on Saturdays, Oslo on Tuesdays [12]
Mainland Portugal TAP, easyJet, Ryanair from Lisbon and Porto; TAP from Faro [1] Lisbon daily: TAP 51, easyJet 28, Ryanair 14 a week, 1 h 40 [3]; Porto: TAP 15, easyJet 14, Ryanair 13, 1 h 55 (rechecked 11 October 2026) [19]
USA United (Newark), seasonal [1] None in the period shown [13]

Wikipedia’s table also lists direct routes from Switzerland (Edelweiss, easyJet Basel), Austria (seasonal), the Baltics, Poland, Hungary, Belgium, Italy and Spain, and island hops to the Azores (Azores Airlines) and Porto Santo (Binter) [1].

From Prague: Smartwings is the only direct option on Google’s data, and Wikipedia marks it as seasonal [1][10]. Out of season, the usual way is a change in Lisbon or Porto, where TAP, easyJet and Ryanair have many daily flights on to Funchal [3][19].

When flights to Madeira are cheapest

Google Flights names, for each route, the month that was typically cheapest and the most expensive over the past 12 months of observed fares [4–12]:

Route Typically cheapest Typically most expensive
London → Funchal December August [4]
Manchester → Funchal January August [5]
Dublin → Funchal January July [6]
Frankfurt → Funchal January July [7]
Munich → Funchal November August [8]
Amsterdam → Funchal December July [9]
Prague → Funchal January July [10]
Paris → Funchal June April [11]
Lisbon → Funchal February August [3]

So for most of Europe the cheap end is midwinter and the expensive end is the summer holidays. Paris is the odd one out on Google’s data (cheapest in June, dearest in April). These are summaries of past fares, not forecasts.

For nomads: midwinter is the cheap end for flights; check accommodation prices for the same dates before you decide. See the best time to visit Madeira and Madeira for digital nomads. For families: the summer holidays are the expensive end on every route except Paris. Monthly insights do not show prices for Christmas or half-term dates, so check those separately.

Wind: why Madeira flights get delayed

Madeira’s runway sits on the coast below steep mountains, and the airport works with mandatory wind limits. Wikipedia describes “frequent operational constraints” from wind shear and cites research papers on the subject [1]. On windy days flights can be held, diverted to another airport or cancelled. What this means in practice:

  • Leave a buffer day before a long-haul connection or an important meeting.
  • Morning flights give you more chances to be rebooked the same day.
  • Check your travel insurance for delay and missed-connection cover.

We have not found a public statistic for how many flights are affected per month, so we give none.

Porto Santo (PXO)

Porto Santo has its own airport (PXO). Binter flies Funchal–Porto Santo, 16 times a week and 25 minutes in Google’s October 2026 data [15]. TAP flies direct from Lisbon, 8 times a week in the same period [16]; Wikipedia also lists easyJet from Lisbon and seasonal routes from Porto, Luxembourg, Milan-Bergamo and a seasonal Smartwings charter from Prague [2]. There are no direct flights from the UK [2]. The other way over is the ferry from Funchal; see Madeira to Porto Santo by ferry and our Porto Santo page.

After you land

  • Aerobus (line 500) to Funchal: about 24 minutes to Avenida do Mar; €6.70 on board or €5.55 on a GIRO card in 2026; departures from the airport about every 30–60 minutes between 08:30 and 22:00 [17], with a midday gap at weekends. Check before you go. Weekday, Saturday and Sunday times, stops and late arrivals: Madeira airport to Funchal.
  • Taxi: the rank is on the arrivals floor; the airport publishes a €4.00 starting fare, 20% more at night and at weekends, and no fixed fare to Funchal [18].
  • Hire car: desks at the airport. Read car hire in Madeira first, then Madeira without a car for the full bus picture, including the west of the island, where buses are rare.

Flying to Madeira with kids

Pushchair, car-seat and infant rules are set by each airline and change, so check yours before booking. A few official pages, with what they said when we read them [20–24]:

  • easyJet: infants in their own seat need a car seat for take-off and landing [20].
  • TAP: children aged two to five may travel in a certified car seat [21].
  • Smartwings: the pushchair travels free and you can keep it to the gate (Czech page) [23].
  • Ryanair and Jet2: see their help pages for infants and children [22][24].

Flights to Madeira from Prague and the Scandinavian capitals take 4 h 45 to 5 h 35 [10][12], a long stretch with a toddler, so a direct flight is worth more here than on a 2-hour hop. For the island itself, see Madeira with kids.

Quick answers

Which airport do you fly into for Madeira?

Madeira Airport (FNC, officially Cristiano Ronaldo International) at Santa Cruz on the east coast, about 19 km by road from Funchal [1][14]. It handled about 5.65 million passengers in 2025 according to Wikipedia's infobox [1]. Porto Santo, the smaller island, has its own airport (PXO) [2].

Are there direct flights from the UK to Madeira?

Yes. From London there are direct flights every day, with easyJet (Gatwick, Luton), British Airways (Gatwick), Jet2 (Luton, Stansted) and Ryanair (Stansted); the fastest takes 3 h 50. Manchester has daily flights with Jet2 and Ryanair (Google Flights, checked 10 October 2026) [4][5]. Jet2 also flies from several regional airports [1].

Can you fly direct from Prague to Madeira?

Yes, with Smartwings: Google Flights showed six weekly non-stop flights on five days a week (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday), about 4 h 45, when we checked on 10 October 2026 [10]. Wikipedia lists the route as seasonal, so check the airline for the months you need [1].

When are flights to Madeira cheapest?

Google Flights' route insights, based on fares observed over the previous 12 months, name December or January as typically cheapest from London, Manchester, Dublin, Amsterdam, Berlin, Frankfurt and Prague, and July or August as most expensive. Paris is the exception: June cheapest, April dearest (all read 10 October 2026) [4–11].

Do flights to Madeira get cancelled because of wind?

Sometimes. The airport has mandatory wind limits and Wikipedia describes 'frequent operational constraints' from wind shear; on bad days flights are delayed, diverted or cancelled [1]. Keep a buffer day before an onward connection and have travel insurance that covers delays.

How do I get to Porto Santo?

By plane or ferry. Binter flies Funchal–Porto Santo, 16 times a week and 25 minutes in Google Flights' October 2026 data, and TAP flies direct from Lisbon [15][16]. The ferry from Funchal is covered in our Porto Santo ferry guide.
