Working remotely from Lagos, Portugalcoworking, internet, SIM cards and costs
What you need to work from Lagos for a few weeks or months: five coworking spaces from €10 a day, what we know (and don't) about internet speeds, a Portuguese eSIM, the cost of living in 2026 and the best months to come.

Lagos is a good small-town base for remote work: five coworking spaces in the municipality with day passes from €10, four laptop-friendly specialty cafés, the same time zone as London, and a beach you can walk to at lunch. What it is not is a nomad city — the cafés close by 16:00–19:00, winter is quiet, and nobody publishes reliable internet speeds. Plan around those three things and it works.
Coworking in Lagos
| Space | Where | Day pass | Month | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| CoLagos | Old town | €10 | €100–130 (dedicated desk) | Run by the municipality; 20 desks; members 24/7 |
| Nest Coworking | Centre | €16 (half-day €10) | €240 (24/7) | 32 desks, 3 call booths, 2 meeting rooms |
| Lifestyle @ Vila Mós | Near Porto de Mós | €20 | €200 | Monitor and free parking included; Mon–Fri 9–18 |
| Centro Lagos | Centre | Not published | Monthly “all-in” | Coworking, offices, virtual office |
| CoLagos Barão de São João | Village inland | €10 | €110 | Opened June 2025; 10 desks |
Prices are from each operator’s website (2026). None publishes a Wi-Fi speed — they say “fast” or “high-speed”. Nest also sells a week (€72) and a 10-day flex membership (€136 a month).
Which one? CoLagos is the cheapest and, being municipal, unusually affordable; its house rules ask for silence, so take calls in the booth. Nest is the one built around calls, with three booths. Lifestyle @ Vila Mós suits a stay on the Porto de Mós side with a car — monitor and parking included, five minutes’ walk from the beach by its own description.
Cafés you can work from
Four Lagos cafés carry European Coffee Trip’s “Laptop Friendly” label: The Studio (07:00–18:00, recommended by two blogs for a whole working day), Black and White (08:00–16:00, laptop bar), DOT Coffee (08:00–19:00) and Twin Fin. Full list and caveats in coffee in Lagos.
Internet: what we know
Honestly, not much. nomads.com shows a 53 Mbps crowd-sourced average for Lagos; Speedtest’s national median for fixed broadband in Portugal was 360 Mbps download in August 2026. Neither tells you about the flat you’re about to book.
What helps:
- Ask the host for a speed test screenshot before booking, and ask whether it’s fibre or a mobile router.
- Have a mobile backup. A Portuguese eSIM with generous data costs less than one coworking day (below).
- Book a coworking day pass for important calls. At €10–16, it’s cheap insurance.
SIM cards and mobile data
If your phone plan is from an EU country, roaming in Portugal costs the same as at home. Otherwise, a local eSIM is the simplest option. Vodafone Portugal’s visitor eSIMs (October 2026):
- Portugal only, 7 days, 10 GB — €10
- Portugal & Europe, 15 days — €20 (unlimited in Portugal, 30 GB in the EU)
- Portugal & Europe, 30 days — €30 (unlimited in Portugal, 55 GB in the EU)
Physical SIMs are sold in Vodafone shops. NOS and MEO are the other two networks; we couldn’t confirm their 2026 visitor offers.
What it costs
| Item | Figure | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Single nomad, per month | ~$2,526 | nomads.com (own formula, Oct 2026) |
| 1-bedroom, centre, long lease | €1,037.50 | Numbeo (2 Oct 2026, 25 contributors) |
| Rent per m², standard lease | €16.2 | idealista, Lagos, May 2026 |
| Cheap lunch | €11 | Numbeo |
| Cappuccino | €2.44 | Numbeo |
| Home internet 60 Mbps+ | €38.75/month | Numbeo |
| Gym | €48.33/month | Numbeo |
| Coworking | €10–20/day, €100–240/month | Operators |
The big variable is accommodation: a monthly holiday let in summer can cost several times a winter one. See where to stay in Lagos for areas and the licence-number check.
When to come
On the climate data, April, May, June and September are the best working months: highs of 18–26 °C, no more than five rainy days and at least nine hours of sun a day. October is a compromise — warm sea, more rain. Winter is mild by day (15 °C in January) but cool at night; ask what heating a flat has. July and August are hot, crowded and the most expensive. Month-by-month: Lagos weather by month.
Time zone
Lagos runs on Lisbon time (WET/WEST), the same as London and an hour behind Central Europe. For a European team, that means a later start; for US East Coast calls, 14:00 in Lagos is 09:00 in New York (winter, five-hour gap).
Staying longer than 90 days
Non-EU citizens who want to work from Portugal for longer need a visa; Portugal’s digital nomad visa is explained in our Portugal digital nomad visa guide, with the official income threshold and documents.

Travel insurance for long stays
A European health card (EHIC, or the UK’s GHIC) covers state healthcare, not everything. For a long stay, check whether a policy covers you for the whole trip, pre-existing conditions, and sports like surfing. We don’t sell or recommend specific policies.
Getting here and around
From Faro airport it’s about 90 km — car, transfer, train or bus: Faro airport to Lagos. In town you won’t need a car; for the west coast and weekends you might: getting around Lagos.

There is no measured figure for Lagos. nomads.com shows a crowd-sourced average of 53 Mbps; Speedtest's national median for fixed broadband in Portugal was 360 Mbps download in August 2026. Ask your host for a speed test screenshot before you book.
How much does coworking cost in Lagos?
