Where to stay in Sagresareas, hostels, hotels and monthly stays

Sagres is small enough that the area matters less than the type of stay: hostel and coliving for solo workers, a resort or flat near Martinhal for families, the centre for no-car stays. Named options with what each publishes, and what we could not verify.

Short answer: stay in the centre of Sagres (around Praça da República) unless you have a reason not to — it is where the restaurants, the bus stop and two town beaches are within walking distance [1]. Families after the calm beach look at Martinhal; people with a car who want a real village with its own health centre look at Vila do Bispo, 10 km and about 11 minutes north [2]. Then choose by type of trip, not by postcode: Sagres is too small for areas to change much.

The areas, briefly

Outsite’s guide to Sagres splits the village into five areas [1]. We have not ranked them; this is what the guide says about each:

  • Centre / Praça da República — the main square, most restaurants, bars and hotels; Baleeira and Poças beaches within walking distance.
  • Praia do Tonel side — just outside the centre, with views of the fortress, the cape and the cliffs.
  • Beliche — off the beaten path on the road to the cape; the beach is reached by steep wooden steps.
  • Santo António — between the centre and the sea; Ponta Ruiva and Telheiro beaches by car.
  • Vila do Bispo — a quiet village with a health centre, fire station and supermarkets.

For a few nights on a budget: hostels

Sagres Sun Stay is a hostel with its own cowork room — high-speed Wi-Fi and power plugs advertised, desks bookable, price not published [4]. Its packages page lists room packages “from 156 €” under winter deals of 7, 14 and 30 nights [3].

The Lighthouse Hostel is on Rua do Poente, about 1.2 km from the centre [7]. Its own site advertises family rooms from €29 [6], while a hostel directory lists it as adults-only (18+) [7]. If you are travelling with children, ask before booking.

OFF THE HOOK is a surf and coworking guesthouse with a separate office; its price page quotes “from 245 € p.p./week”, but the page was last updated in July 2023 [5].

For a week or a month of work: coliving and packages

If you are coming to work, the two options built for it are the Sagres Sun Stay Digital Nomad Package — 30 nights from €402 with breakfast [3] — and Outsite Sagres, a coliving house with 12 bedrooms and one apartment, shared workspaces, and prices from $41 a night on its city page [8]; its location page advertises a winter 2026/27 offer from €800 a month [14]. We have not checked either internet connection; see our guide to working remotely in Sagres for what to test.

For families: resort, flat or campsite

Martinhal Sagres Beach Family Resort sits behind Praia do Martinhal and is the most family-specific option here. It runs kids’ clubs all year in age groups from 6 months to 17 years, has five pools — two heated, one of them indoor all year — three restaurants with children’s menus, and complimentary Wi-Fi across the resort [9][10]. It is a resort, so budget for resort prices; the FAQ also mentions a high-season discount when two siblings are in the nursery or crèche together [9].

A flat in the centre keeps you within walking distance of Mareta beach and the restaurants [1] — the simpler choice if you do not need childcare.

Orbitur Sagres campsite at Cerro das Moitas is open all year, about 1 km from the beach, with pitches, mobile homes, a minimarket, a restaurant and laundry [13]. For families with a van or on a tighter budget, it is the cheapest fixed base we found.

For a short stay with a view: hotels

Memmo Baleeira is a design hotel above the harbour at Sítio da Baleeira; direct bookings include breakfast and flexible cancellation up to 48 hours before arrival [11].

Pousada Sagres opened in 1960 and looks across to the fortress and the Cabo de São Vicente lighthouse; it has an outdoor pool and is about 10 minutes’ walk from the beach [12].

Monthly rentals and when to book

We found no published rent figure for Sagres — Numbeo has no Sagres entry, and we did not find a usable local figure elsewhere.

What we would do: start with a two-week booking on a platform, then look locally for a longer stay once you are there. We would expect July and August to be the hardest months to find anything, but we have no data on lead times.

What to check before you book

  • Heating and damp in winter rentals: ask directly whether the flat has heating.
  • Distance on foot to the bus stop and a grocery shop if you will be without a car.
  • Wi-Fi: ask the host for a speed-test screenshot from the last month.
  • Age policies at hostels if you travel with children [6][7].
