Faro for remote workerscoworking prices, cafés, trains and where to stay

What a remote worker gets in Faro and the eastern Algarve: KOBU Spaces in Faro (day €18.45) and A Fábrica in Olhão (day €15), the few cafés with documented Wi-Fi, trains along the coast, rents and the visa question. Researched, dated, not first-hand.

Short answer: Faro works for a remote-work week or month if you plan around one place: KOBU Spaces, which opened in May 2026 with published prices — €18.45 a day, €178.35 a month including VAT [1]. Ten minutes east by train, A Fábrica de Olhão is cheaper (€15 a day, €220 for a dedicated desk) [3]. Beyond those two, the café scene we could document is thin, and we have not tested any of it ourselves. If you want a ready-made nomad routine, Lagos is the better-known bet; Faro’s case is the airport, the trains and lower rents.

Where to work

Place Type Price Hours Wi-Fi
KOBU Spaces, Faro coworking half day €12.30, day €18.45, week €49.20, month €178.35 [1] Mon–Fri 09:30–18:30 [1] listed, speed not published
A Fábrica de Olhão, Olhão coworking 2 h €5, day €15, flex month €180, desk €220 [3] weekdays; hours differ by source “fast Wi-Fi” per operator
Yellow Bourbon, Faro café — Mon–Sat 09:00–18:00, Sun to 15:00 [4] “Free Wifi” on Tripadvisor only
Café Formosa, Tavira café — Wed–Sat, until 14:00/15:00 [5] Free Wi-Fi, laptop friendly [5]
The Table, Tavira coffee & cowork not published conflicting listed

KOBU Spaces is the only place where the operator describes a separate corner for calls [1]. Nobody publishes an internet speed. What we’d do: book a KOBU day pass for the first day, run a speed test and a video call, then decide on a week or a month.

Other coworking names appear in directories — some with addresses that turned out to be in Loulé, not Faro, and some with no recent sign of activity — so we left them out.

Living in Faro, working along the coast

The railway is the east’s advantage. From Faro: Regional trains take 9–10 minutes to Olhão (€1.60), about 32–37 minutes to Tavira (€3.60), and 90–108 minutes to Lagos (€8.30). The daily InterRegional to Lagos takes about 77 minutes (€9.15), all adult singles [6][7][16]. In the return direction, Tavira–Faro Regional trains take 31–38 minutes; do not use the outward time for the commute back [6]. Check CP before travel. Monthly passes make a split set-up cheap: Faro–Olhão €36.40, Faro–Tavira €81.25 [7]. Living in Olhão or Tavira and working at a Faro desk two or three days a week is possible on paper; check the walk from Faro station to your desk and the train times for your working hours first.

The airport is about 4 km in a straight line and 7–8 km by road from the city, depending on the address [14][15], and bus 16’s first departure from the city is at 05:00 [12], useful for early flights.

Rent and costs

Numbeo’s crowd-sourced figures for Faro: one-bedroom flat in the centre €912.50 a month, outside the centre €795, updated 2 October 2026 from 16 contributors [8]. That is long-term rent; a furnished monthly let costs more, and we found no dated source for it. Faro is a university town — the University of the Algarve announced 298 new student-residence beds for the 2026–27 year [9] — so expect competition for rooms around September.

Visa, SIM, insurance

Faro or Lagos for work?

Lagos has the coworking with day prices and the café scene we know from living there; Faro has a newer coworking, the airport on its doorstep and cheaper rent on Numbeo’s figures. For the full comparison of the two coasts, see east vs west Algarve and Tavira vs Lagos.

Times to Tavira and Olhão use CP arrival times for 12–18 October 2026, rounded up to whole minutes. Some PDF times at these stations are onward departures after a stop, so check the arrival for your chosen train [16].

    Quick answers

    Is there coworking in Faro?

Yes. KOBU Spaces opened in central Faro in May 2026 and publishes prices including VAT: half day €12.30, day €18.45, week €49.20, month €178.35, weekdays 09:30–18:30. Ten minutes away by train, A Fábrica de Olhão charges €15 a day and €220 a month for a dedicated desk.

Is Faro good for digital nomads?

As a base for a week or a month it works on paper: a coworking space with published prices, trains east and west, an airport about 4 km in a straight line and 7–8 km by road away (depending on the address) and a university town's services. The café and community scene we could document is thinner than in Lagos. This is research, not experience.

How much is rent in Faro?

Numbeo's crowd-sourced figure for a one-bedroom flat in the centre was €912.50 a month and €795 outside the centre (updated 2 October 2026, 16 contributors). That is long-term rent, not a furnished monthly let, which usually costs more.

Can I work remotely from Portugal on a tourist stay?

For British citizens, GOV.UK says the visa-free 90 days in any 180 cover tourism and some business activities, and that working is different. Portugal has a digital nomad visa; see our Portugal digital nomad visa guide.
