The notes

Peneco is the beach right under Albufeira’s old town. You walk onto the sand through a tunnel cut into the cliff, down the stairs on the west side, or take the public lift from the Rossio area [1]. That makes it one of the few central Algarve town beaches that works with a pushchair.

What we found (research)

  • Blue Flag 2026 [2]. The council lists it as an accessible beach (Praia Acessível) and lifeguarded [1].
  • Services listed by the council: a medical post, parking with accessible spaces, accessible WCs, drinking water, restaurants and bars [1].
  • Albufeira’s bathing season, when the lifeguards are on duty, runs 15 May to 15 October. That’s longer than the rest of the Algarve. In 2026 the council agreed an extra season, but hasn’t published its dates [3].
  • It’s continuous with Praia dos Pescadores to the east [1].

Good to know / Check before you go

  • This is the town-centre beach. Choose it for convenience, not for space. For more room, the council’s beach pages list longer beaches east and west of town, such as Oura, São Rafael and Falésia.
