The notes
Santo Amaro is Oeiras’s town beach: a long, gently sloping stretch of sand, with the Oeiras seafront promenade behind it, between the Laje stream and the São Julião fort [APA]. It sits inside the mouth of the Tagus, so it is not the open surf coast of Carcavelos or Guincho. From Cais do Sodré the weekday train takes about 23 minutes, and a reviewer puts the walk from Santo Amaro station at five minutes [CP; Tripadvisor].
What the sources say (research)
- Bathing season with lifeguards in 2026: 1 June to 30 September; the town says it also covered weekends and holidays from 2 April. Twenty lifeguards across Oeiras’s beaches in 2026. [Portaria 204-A/2026/1; oeiras.pt, 2 Jun 2026]
- Blue Flag 2026, with neighbouring Praia da Torre. [ABAE; oeiras.pt]
- ‘Praia Acessível’: amphibious chairs and assisted bathing at Santo Amaro. [oeiras.pt, 2 Jun 2026]
- Water quality: short-term pollution can follow heavy rain through the Laje stream; no days advised against because of short-term pollution in the 2025 season. A warning is posted at the beach if bathing is advised against. [APA profile]
- Caxias and Paço de Arcos, one and two stops nearer Lisbon, are also official bathing beaches but have no 2026 Blue Flag. [Portaria 204-A/2026/1; ABAE]
- One stop further, by Praia da Torre, the Oeiras ocean pool has a 40 cm children’s pool in summer.
