Mercado Municipal de Tavira

Tavira’s municipal market is where the town buys fish, fruit and vegetables, in a 1999 building by the river east of the centre. It is useful for anyone renting an apartment for a week or more — nomads, families, long stays. It is a morning market: by early afternoon it closes, and the published hours differ between sources.

What we found (research)

• The market site lists fishmongers, fruit and vegetable growers, several butchers, a charcuterie and wine shop, Beterraba (described as Tavira’s first organic grocer, opened 2008), a pastry shop and café, a juice counter and a seafood restaurant. [mercado.cm-tavira.pt]

Good to know / Check before you go

• It is a morning market: every source gives a closing time between 13:00 and 15:00. No source we read states the closing days — check before you go on Sundays and holidays.
