The notes

The Centro Ciência Viva do Algarve is a small, hands-on science centre on the waterfront just outside the old-town walls, about 110 m from the Portas do Mar boat quay. It’s the obvious place in Faro for children on a rainy or very hot day: aquariums of Ria Formosa and tropical life, a touch tank and changing exhibitions. Remember it’s closed on Mondays.

Good to know / Check before you go

  • We couldn’t find general admission prices on the official site. A Tripadvisor reviewer mentions €5 and GetYourGuide sells an individual ticket from about US$5.74. Check the official ticket page or call +351 289 890 920 before you go.
  • Workshops and birthday parties are booked at reservas.ccvalg.pt. Programmes are partly in Portuguese, so ask about language.
  • Reviewers report a visit of about an hour. Pair it with the Arco da Vila and the cathedral, both within a few hundred metres.
