Puerto de Mogán, Gran Canaria

A small harbour village on Gran Canaria's south-west coast: a 209 m calm-water beach with lifeguards, canals, a Friday market and boats along the coast. Smaller than Maspalomas, but still a resort, and the far end of the line from the airport. Research draft.

In detail

The notes behind this page

Short answer: Puerto de Mogán is the small, pretty end of Gran Canaria’s resort coast: a harbour, canals, one 209-metre beach with calm water and a lifeguard, a Friday market and boats to the next resorts. It is a resort too, but a small one, with about 3,300 hotel and apartment beds against more than 68,000 in Maspalomas and Playa del Inglés. That makes it a good fit for a quiet family week. It is less good for a working month: we found no coworking in the village, it is the last stop of the bus line from the airport, and around it the Mogán coast (Puerto Rico, Amadores, Taurito) is built-up resort.

How touristy is it

  • The Puerto de Mogán zone had 3,331 hotel and apartment beds in September 2025, 68% occupied; the whole “Mogán turístico” coast had 29,176, 27% of the island. [ISTAC via Gran Canaria Tourism]

  • On Fridays the market brings visitors from the other resorts; expect the village to be busiest then. (Our inference from the market’s size and boat links, not a measured fact.)

Mogán’s tourist tax (€0.15 per person per night) was annulled by the Canary Islands High Court in July 2026; see tourist tax in Spain.
