Where to stay

Areas of Seville, and who they suit

Typical rent€831 / month1-bedroom flat in the centre. Crowd-sourced figure, treat it as an order of magnitude.

  1. Santa Cruz / around the cathedral

    Recommended

The Real Alcázar, the cathedral and the Archivo de Indias are here, so a short first visit works on foot (our judgement from the map, not first-hand). Expect the most tourists.

  2. Centro / Encarnación

    Recommended

North of the cathedral, around the Setas and the Encarnación market; shops, cafés and the old town within walking distance (our judgement from the map).

  3. Triana

    Fine

Across the Guadalquivir from the old town, with its own market at the end of the Isabel II bridge; a more local feel and a walk over the river to the sights (our judgement from the map).

In detail

The notes behind this page

Seville is the capital of Andalusia and its largest city, about 687,000 people on the Guadalquivir. Its old town holds three UNESCO-listed buildings, the Real Alcázar, the cathedral and the Archivo de Indias, and it is flat enough to cross on foot with a stroller. Winters are mild; July and August average highs of 36 °C, so spring and autumn are the months we would plan around. There is no tourist tax as of October 2026.

With kids (research)

Getting around by car (research)

Seville’s low-emission zone covers only Cartuja Norte and Cartuja Sur, north-west of the old town [BOP Sevilla, 2022]. The old town itself is better on foot. Rules for parking, tolls and other cities’ zones: driving in Spain. Flying in: the bus, the fixed taxi fare and the hire desks at the airport are in Seville airport to the city.

Seville: quick answers

How many days do you need in Seville?

Two full days cover the Real Alcázar, the cathedral and Giralda, Plaza de España with the María Luisa park, the Setas and Triana. A third day gives you time for a slower morning, a museum or a day trip. Our day-by-day plan: things to do in Seville.

Is there a tourist tax in Seville?

No. As of 10 October 2026 Andalusia has no tourist tax, regional or municipal. The idea is being debated, including a parliamentary request filed on 14 September 2026, so check before you book.

Can I drive into Seville's low-emission zone?

Seville's low-emission zone covers only the Cartuja Norte and Cartuja Sur areas north-west of the old town, as delimited in the provincial gazette on 31 December 2022, so most visitors staying in the centre are not affected. We could not reach the city's own ZBE pages from our location to confirm hours and fines; check them if your accommodation is in La Cartuja.

How do I get from Seville airport to the city centre?

By the EA airport bus from outside arrivals: €6 single, €8 return, cash or card on board; in TUSSAM's January 2026 timetable it leaves the airport from 05:22 to 01:00 and takes about 30 to 40 minutes to Prado de San Sebastián and Plaza de Armas. A taxi costs a fixed €26 on weekday daytimes and €29 at night, at weekends and on holidays (2026 fares). Details and late arrivals: our Seville airport to the city guide.

Is Seville good with kids?

On paper, yes, outside the summer heat: children up to 13 enter the Real Alcázar and the cathedral free with an adult, Plaza de España and the María Luisa park are open spaces, and the old town is flat. The children's hospital at Virgen del Rocío has a 24-hour paediatric emergency department. Research, not first-hand.
