In detail
The notes behind this page
Nerja is a town of about 22,000 people at the eastern end of the Costa del Sol, roughly 50 km from Málaga. Its old town sits on low cliffs around the Balcón de Europa promenade, with beaches below, and the Nerja Cave, one of Spain’s best-known show caves, is in the village of Maro just to the east. Four of its beaches carried a Blue Flag in 2026. It is a family-holiday base more than a working one: we found no coworking space in town.
Plan your days: things to do in Nerja, with 2026 cave prices and hours, the four Blue Flag beaches, the Frigiliana bus and the Río Chíllar’s status.

Nerja: quick answers
How do I get from Málaga airport to Nerja?
By car it is about 45 minutes on the A-7 (Wikipedia, citing a 2024 source). ALSA runs a bus from the airport (Aena lists the line); third-party sites give about 1 h 45 to 2 hours, which we could not confirm on ALSA's own site. From Málaga bus station the timetable lists 23 ALSA buses to Nerja on weekdays, 25 on Saturdays and 23 on Sundays, from 06:30 (09:15 on Sundays) to 23:00, taking 45 minutes on the most direct ones and up to 1 h 45 with all stops; ALSA's route page gives 47 a day, which we could not match to the station timetable.
How much are tickets to the Nerja Cave?
In 2026, online: adults €16 for most of the year and €18 in summer and holiday periods; children 6–11 €12/€13; 3–5 €5/€6; under-3s free. At the ticket office adults pay €2 more. Tickets include the virtual reality room and the Museo de Nerja (cuevadenerja.es, read 9 October 2026).
Does Nerja have Blue Flag beaches?
Yes, four in 2026: Burriana, Maro, Playazo-Chucho and Torrecilla (ADEAC list, confirmed by the town hall on 30 June 2026). In the 2026 season lifeguards worked daily until 21:00 from 1 June to 27 September.
Is Nerja good for digital nomads?
We did not find a coworking space in Nerja and no internet data for the town. It suits a family holiday or a quiet stay better than a working month; for coworking, Málaga is about 50 km west.
