In detail

The notes behind this page

Fuengirola is a compact beach town of about 85,000 people west of Málaga, and the last stop of the C-1 train from the airport (34 minutes). Almost half its residents were born abroad, it has four Blue Flag beaches, a zoo in the town centre and the lowest Numbeo rents of the coast towns we checked. For a family that wants to arrive without a car and stay by the sea, it is the simplest option on the Costa del Sol. For coworking it has two small spaces; Málaga, 40–50 minutes up the line, has more choice.

Fuengirola: quick answers

How do I get from Málaga airport to Fuengirola?

Take the C-1 Cercanías train from the airport station: Aena gives 34 minutes to Fuengirola, the end of the line, with stops at Torremolinos and Benalmádena on the way. The municipality has four stations: Carvajal, Torreblanca, Los Boliches and Fuengirola. There is no direct airport bus listed by Aena.

Is Fuengirola good for families?

By the data we checked, yes: four Blue Flag beaches in 2026, the Bioparc zoo 600 m from the station (adult €29.50, child €23, under-3s free), and Selwo Marina and Sea Life in Benalmádena, whose Arroyo de la Miel station is five stops back up the line (about a quarter of an hour by Aena's timings); the parks are not at the station. Research, not first-hand.

Why are there so many foreigners in Fuengirola?

Almost half its residents were born abroad: 44.4% in 2025, with Finland, Morocco and the UK the top countries of birth (INE figures via Wikipedia). Wikipedia also mentions an English-language theatre run by foreign residents.

Is there coworking in Fuengirola?

Two small ones we could check: JK WorkHub (Avenida Condes de San Isidro 13; four desks, €25 a day plus VAT from 8:00 to 20:00, monthly from €240 plus VAT) and SmartWorkPlaza on the second floor of the Hotel Puerto on the seafront (Paseo Marítimo 32), which sells day passes but did not publish prices in October 2026. There is also a municipal centre for young local businesses. Málaga, with more choice, is 40–50 minutes away on the C-1 train.
